- 1 14.5 ounce can diced tomatoes I use fire-roasted tomatoes.
- 1/4 cup red onion chopped
- 1/4 cup fresh cilantro
- 1 tablespoon lime juice or lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic 2 cloves minced
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt or to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/4 teaspoon chipotle chili powder *see notes
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper *see notes
Add all of the ingredients to the food processor or blender and pulse, in 5-second intervals, until you reach your desired consistency.
Transfer the salsa to a bowl and serve fresh or store it in an airtight container and refrigerate until ready to serve for up to 5 days.
- I recommend starting with 1/4 teaspoon of the cayenne pepper and 1/4 teaspoon of the chipotle chili powder, then do a taste test before you add more. I actually use 1/2 teaspoon of each, but everyone has a different tolerance for spice. You can always add more spice, but you can't take it out once it's in there.
- Try using this salsa as a topping for tacos, fajitas, burrito bowls, lettuce wraps, enchiladas, salads, and more!
- For a fresh salsa, or salsa fresca, try making this yummy Pico de Gallo or Corn Salsa.
