Mushrooms are a wonderful addition to so many meals. They are nutritious and add both flavor and texture to various dishes. They can also be used as a meat substitute for vegetarian meals. These sautéed baby portabella mushrooms with bourbon and garlic can be served as a side dish with dinner but they are also great to add to other recipes like chicken, steak, or pasta. These yummy shrooms are a wonderful addition to my Creamy Cauliflower Risotto, for a super satisfying low-carb vegetarian meal. They also pair perfectly with Sage Butter Ravioli. If you have some extra Bourbon on hand, I highly recommend making some delightful Maple Bourbon Pecans, they are keto-friendly as well.
I hope that you enjoy the Sauteed Bourbon Mushrooms!
Bourbon Mushroom Recipe Ingredients
For this bourbon mushroom recipe, I recommend only using fresh mushrooms. The rest of the ingredients are pretty straightforward.
- Mushrooms – I used fresh sliced baby portabella mushrooms. You can also use a different mushroom variety if you prefer.
- Olive Oil– You can also just use butter to saute the mushrooms if you prefer.
- Butter – I always use unsalted butter, so I can control the saltiness, but salted butter works as well.
- Garlic – fresh minced cloves of garlic or jarred minced garlic.
- Bourbon – I used Kentucky Straight Bourbon, but any Bourbon will work.
- Salt and Pepper– I use kosher salt and freshly ground peppercorn medley.
- Herbs – I used parsley but you can also use other herbs like thyme or rosemary. The herbs are optional.
How to Make Sautéed Mushrooms with Bourbon
These Sautéed Mushrooms with Bourbon are super quick and easy to make! This dish requires very little preparation. You can even purchase whole or pre-sliced fresh mushrooms at the store that are ready to cook. If your mushrooms require some cleaning, the instructions are below.
How to Clean Mushrooms
To clean fresh mushrooms, it is best not to submerge or run them directly under water. Mushrooms are very porous and will absorb water like a sponge. Instead, use a dry or slightly damp paper towel to gently wipe the mushrooms clean.
Sauté Mushrooms
In a large sauté pan, melt the butter into the olive oil over medium heat. Add the mushrooms and sauté for about 6-8 minutes, or until most of their liquid has evaporated and they are lightly browned on both sides. Add the minced garlic to the pan and sauté with the mushrooms for 1 minute. Tip: Use a large pan and try not to crowd the mushrooms. Allow the mushrooms to brown on one side without stirring for 3-4 minutes, then stir and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes so they brown on the other side.
Remove the pan from heat, then pour the bourbon into the pan with the mushrooms. Return the pan to heat and use the bourbon to deglaze the pan, scraping up the browned bits with a wooden spoon. Reduce the Bourbon, stirring occasionally, for 3-4 minutes or until the liquid has evaporated.
Season with salt and pepper and sprinkle with herbs if desired. Serve immediately and enjoy!
