Garlic Butter Shrimp and Asparagus Ingredients

This Garlic Butter Shrimp and Asparagus recipe will give you the best results when you use quality fresh ingredients.

  • shrimp – I prefer to use shrimp that are already peeled and deveined with the tails off. Wild-caught shrimp that are extra large work best with this recipe. You can use fresh raw shrimp or frozen shrimp that have been fully thawed.
  • asparagus – fresh asparagus spears.
  • garlic – minced cloves.
  • butter – I like to use unsalted butter, but you can also use salted butter.
  • olive oil – avocado oil is a great substitute.
  • Italian seasoning – spice blend of dried herbs including basil, thyme, oregano, rosemary, and sage.
  • salt and pepper – I used Himalayan pink salt and freshly ground black pepper.

Optional Garnish

  • lemon – fresh lemon wedges for squeezing
  • parmesan – freshly grated parmesan cheese
  • herbs – freshly chopped herbs like basil, oregano, or parsley

How to Make Shrimp and Asparagus with Garlic Butter

To make shrimp and asparagus with garlic butter, first, wash and trim the tough ends off the asparagus. If you are using frozen shrimp, defrost them in the refrigerator overnight or thaw them by running them under cold water for a few minutes.

Heat the olive oil in a large non-stick pan over medium heat. Add the asparagus to the pan, season with salt and pepper, and saute the asparagus until tender-crisp, about 4-6 minutes. Remove the sauteed asparagus from the pan and set aside.

In the same pan, melt the butter. Add the shrimp to the pan and sprinkle with Italian seasoning. Saute the shrimp for about 2-3 minutes on one side, then add the minced garlic to the pan and flip the shrimp to cook the other side for 2-3 minutes or until they are opaque and have turned pink.
