This Whole Wheat Basil Bread can be made the traditional way or in a bread machine. It is a very simple bread to make and goes well with so many things. It is great with just a little butter, for making sandwiches and for dipping in sauce or soup. I had this bread with my Broccoli Cheese Soup and it was delicious! You could also pair this bread with my Chicken Gnocchi Soup or Zuppa Toscana. For this recipe, I made it in the bread machine. The bread machine is great when you have lots to do.
Ingredients for the Whole Wheat Basil Bread:
- Water
- Whole Wheat Flour – I use organic whole wheat flour.
- Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- Sugar
- Salt – I used kosher salt
- Basil – I used organic dried basil
- Active Dry Yeast
Note: I used a 2 lb. bread machine.
Instructions to make the Whole Wheat Basil Bread in the bread machine:
First, add the water and olive oil to the bread pan. Then, add all of the dry ingredients, except the yeast, to the bread pan. Finally, make a small depression into the flour with your finger and add the dry yeast to the depression. Make sure you do not allow the yeast to come in contact with any liquids. Select the whole wheat basic setting on the bread machine and press start. Once the bread is finished, allow it to cool for 10 minutes. Enjoy!
