Yes, it’s an Egg in a Hole! Nothing fancy. Just a quick and easy breakfast that is quite tasty! These are baked eggs in a hole instead of fried in a skillet with butter. This may not be the traditional way to make it but it’s easier, less messy, healthier and you can make more at the same time!
This simple breakfast dish goes by so many names it’s ridiculous…
- Egg In A Hole
- Egg in a Frame
- Toad In The Hole – Why? I do not know.
- Eggs In A Basket
- Bird’s Nest Eggs
- Bullseye Eggs
- Popeye – Maybe if you add some spinach?
- One-eyed Jack – Seriously, I have no clue.
- Gashouse Eggs – ???
- Egg Toast – This one actually makes sense.
Really, it’s just an egg and some toast. Ok, I did add a little cheese. Let’s just eat our yummy egg toast and forget about what to call it!

Ingredients needed to make Baked Eggs in a Hole:
- 4 Slices of Good Bread – I used Whole Grain Bread
- 4 Large Eggs
- 1/4 cup Shredded Parmesan Cheese
- 1 teaspoon Paprika
- Salt and Pepper to taste
- Non-stick Cooking Spray
How to make Baked Eggs in a Hole:
First, preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil. Use a cookie cutter or a glass with a circular rim to cut out the hole in the center of each slice of bread. Place the bread onto the baking sheet and spray each side of the bread with non-stick cooking spray. You can also butter your bread if you would prefer, but spraying is quicker, easier and fewer calories. Gently crack one egg into each hole, try not to break the yolk. If you do break the yolk, no big deal, still very tasty. Sprinkle the shredded parmesan cheese and paprika over each egg.
Place the baking sheet onto the center rack of your oven and bake for 7 – 9 minutes, or until the egg whites are set. Cook a little longer if you don’t like a runny yolk. Carefully remove from oven and season with salt and pepper to your liking. Enjoy!
