Homemade Cranberry Sauce

When it comes to cranberry sauce, homemade is the only way to go! Making your own fresh cranberry sauce is so quick and easy. Once you try this fresh cranberry sauce, you will never want to buy that stuff in the can again! The flavor, the texture, everything about it is so different… in a good way!

I remember hating cranberry sauce when I was a child. I think it was partly due to the taste, but mainly because of the gelatinous texture. You know what I’m talking about… that weird, slimy, gelatinous mess that comes out of the can in the form of a tube. I could not understand why anyone would want to eat it. So, I grew up thinking that I just hated cranberry sauce. Then, one Thanksgiving, I decided to make my own using fresh cranberries! I cannot begin to explain how truly different homemade cranberry sauce is. It is so much better than that junk from the can! Please trust me, just make your own and you will not regret it! It really is so simple to make.

Served warm or cold, there are so many things you can use your homemade cranberry sauce. The most obvious choice is to serve it with turkey. For a nice holiday appetizer, try it on top of some crostini with goat cheese. It also makes a great topping for a turkey sandwich. I choose to make my cranberry sauce using all organic ingredients.

As soon as the liquid starts to boil, add the cranberries to the pan. Simmer over medium heat for up to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. If the sauce starts to splatter, reduce the heat. Do not cook longer than 15 minutes or the sauce will start to become gelatinous. We do not want that!
