Stovetop Mac and Cheese
This Easy Stovetop Mac and Cheese is made in one pot and it’s creamy, cheesy and super yummy! I swear it’s the best macaroni and cheese and it only takes 15 minutes to make!
Homemade macaroni and cheese is the best and this one-pot mac and cheese is truly so quick and easy to make. No need to boil the noodles in a separate pot. They will soak up way more flavor being cooked in the same pot, not to mention fewer dishes.
I made my mac-n-cheese with organic vegetable broth and organic hidden veggie twisted elbow pasta. You can use the pasta of your choice, but I have to sneak those veggies in wherever I can. Between the vegetable broth and the veggie pasta, this is almost a healthy mac and cheese. At least it’s way healthier than that stuff in a box! That powdered cheese is very questionable. Am I right?
So, no more junk in a box! Please, make this instead. It is just as quick and easy to make but it is 100% better in every way! Just ask my daughter, she is the resident mac-n-cheese expert and my official taste tester. Now, let’s make some real macaroni and cheese!
Mac-N-Cheese Ingredients
Mac-N-Cheese ingredients are pretty basic and can easily be changed to suit your personal preference.
- macaroni – I used organic hidden veggie twisted elbow pasta. You can use the pasta of your choice.
- olive oil
- unsalted butter
- all-purpose flour
- shredded cheddar cheese – Sharp, mild or a mix depending on your flavor preference.
- milk – I used 2% organic milk.
- seasoning salt
- vegetable broth – I used low sodium organic vegetable broth but you can also use water.
How to make Macaroni and Cheese in One Pot
Making making homemade macaroni and cheese in one pot is super quick and easy!
In a large pot, melt the butter into the olive oil over medium heat. Add the flour to the melted butter, and stir to combine for about 1 minute.
Add the vegetable broth and whisk to combine. Then add the milk and seasoning salt and whisk to combine. Bring just to a simmer, then stir in the dry, uncooked pasta. Keep at a simmer, reducing heat if needed, and stir occasionally for about 7 – 10 minutes, or until the pasta is cooked al dente.
Once the pasta is cooked, remove from heat and stir in the cheese until melted. You can add additional salt and pepper to taste if needed. Serve immediately. I hope that you all enjoy the mac-n-cheese!
