Chai Matcha Latte

This Chai Matcha Latte recipe can be served hot or cold and it makes a delicious healthy beverage that is both comforting and invigorating!

Chai Matcha Latte
I love a nice warm beverage on a chilly day and this chai spiced matcha latte is one of my absolute favorites! The warm spices combined with the earthy matcha is a wonderful combination. However, I also love making this an Iced Chai Matcha Latte on hot days. It is a refreshingly tasty treat and I add protein powder to the mix when I have it as my post-workout shake. You might want to try it since it is super yummy and satisfying!

Making your own matcha chai latte is quick, easy, more convenient, and budget-friendly than going to the local coffee shop. It also allows you to truly customize your drink to your personal preferences. Homemade matcha lattes can be made much healthier as well.

Matcha has many health benefits if you use high-quality matcha. However, I found out that the “very popular and well-known” coffee shop that I frequent uses a matcha powder that is 51% sugar! That’s right! The matcha lattes that I was paying way too much for has more sugar than actual matcha. I am not talking about adding sugar to the drink, they actually have the sugar mixed into the matcha powder. So even when you order it unsweetened or use stevia, the drink still contains a rather large amount of sugar. I must admit that I felt a little bit of anger when I learned this since I try very hard to stay sugar-free for health reasons. So, now I only make my matcha beverages in the comfort of my own home using healthy quality ingredients. And guess what, my homemade chai matcha lattes taste way better than that overpriced, sugar-loaded junk!

Chai Matcha Latte Ingredients

  • Chai Spice4 Spice Chai Mix – This homemade spice blend is quick and easy to make, and has the perfect balance of warm spices to create a delicious matcha chai latte!
  • Matcha – I use organic ceremonial-grade matcha powder.
  • Milk – I use unsweetened almond milk, but any milk works. Whole milk will make a creamier latte, while almond milk will create a low-calorie beverage. Oat milk and other non-dairy milk work as well.

Matcha Chai Tea Latte
Optional:

  • Sweetener – I use stevia to keep my latte low-calorie and sugar-free, but you can use the sweetener of your choice.
  • Cinnamon stick – I use it as a garnish for special occasions. It adds extra flavor and makes the perfect stir stick!

How to Make a Chai Matcha Latte

This Chai Matcha Latte is quick and easy to make and can be served hot or cold. First, make the chai spice mix, it only takes 2 minutes. I recommend making a full batch in advance to have on hand. I always have a jar full of it for all of my chai needs! You can also brew 2-3 chai tea bags as a substitute.

Bring water to a near boil, but not boiling, just very hot water. Matcha can become bitter when boiled, and boiling water can diminish some of the nutrients as well. Add the hot water, matcha powder, and chai spice to a large mug, then whisk to combine and brew the matcha.

Heat the milk in the microwave, in a microwave-safe mug, until hot but not boiling. I usually heat for about 2 minutes on high, but microwaves can vary. As an alternative, you can heat the milk in a small saucepan on the stove. Pour the hot milk into the mug with the brewed matcha powder and chai spice, then whisk or froth with an electric frother. Sweeten as desired then do a taste test and adjust to your liking. Enjoy!

Iced Chai Matcha Latte

Bring water to a near boil, but not boiling, just very hot water. Add the hot water, matcha powder, and chai spice to a mug, then whisk to combine and brew the matcha. Next, add the cold milk of your choice to the mug and stir well or froth to combine. Add ice to a large glass then pour the chai matcha latte over the ice. Sweeten as desired and enjoy!

Tip: For an iced chai matcha latte, I use a little extra matcha powder and chai spice so that it does not become as diluted by the ice.
