Chai Spice Mix

Four Spice Chai Mix

A chai tea latte is my favorite beverage and I drink them daily year-round. The warm, spicy, and comforting flavors of chai spice are just the best! I drink hot chai lattes during the colder months and iced chai lattes during the warmer months. So this four-spice chai mix gets used a lot! I also add this easy chai spice mix to other beverages, baked goods, and more!

Chai spices can vary depending on the recipe. Many have black pepper, cloves, and nutmeg in the mix but I use a combination of Ceylon cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, and allspice. The flavor combination is well-balanced and delicious, and this spice blend makes the perfect chai latte. It is naturally caffeine-free and can be used alone or blended with milk, but feel free to add some tea! You can mix it with black tea for a classic chai tea, or mix it with a caffeine-free tea like rooibos. You might also want to try my Chai Matcha Latte!

4-Ingredient Chai Spice Mix

4 Ingredient Chai Spice Mix

This 4-ingredient chai spice mix is the perfect blend of cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, and allspice. I recommend using all organic ingredients to make the four-spice chai blend.

  • Cinnamon – I only use organic Ceylon cinnamon. Ceylon, or “true cinnamon is healthy, while the Cassia variety can be toxic in large amounts.
  • Ginger – I love ginger for the warm, peppery, and slightly sweet flavor that it adds. It also has many health benefits.
  • Cardamom – This spice has a strong aroma and a flavor that is warm, sweet, and spicy.
  • Allspice – This is where my chai spice varies from a traditional chai spice mix. Allspice is only one spice, also known as Jamaica pepper or myrtle pepper. It tastes like a combination of cloves, cinnamon, pepper, and nutmeg, which is why I use it instead of adding black pepper, cloves, and nutmeg to my spice blend.

How to Make Chai Spice Mix

To make the chai spice mix, add the cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, and allspice to a spice jar or a mason jar. Seal the jar and shake well to combine. Store in an air-tight container at room temperature until ready to use.

This recipe will make about 5 ounces of chai spice but you can easily make a half batch or a double batch if you will be using it often.
