Autumn Pumpkin Smoothie Bowl with Fall Harvest Toppings

Pumpkin Smoothie Bowl

This pumpkin smoothie bowl tastes like pumpkin pie and is topped with nutritious fall produce like apples, pears, nuts, and seeds. It is great for breakfast, but it also makes a fantastic healthy dessert or snack!

A pumpkin yogurt smoothie is actually one of my favorite treats and I eat it all year long, not just during the fall season. It is super yummy and I feel good about what I am eating. I can also easily change it up by adding different toppings for variety.

I love fresh fall produce! The colors and the flavors put a big smile on my face. My daughter and I actually went apple picking at one of our local farms, so this smoothie bowl has freshly picked apples in it. So fun and absolutely delicious apples! If you have the opportunity, I highly recommend taking advantage of fresh local produce when it is in season. It always tastes better and fresher. Plus, you are supporting a small business in your own community and that is a wonderful thing.

Pumpkin Smoothie Ingredients

These pumpkin smoothie ingredients are healthy and nutrient-rich. This pumpkin smoothie bowl can easily be altered to suit your dietary preferences. For example, you can make it completely plant-based and vegan.

  • Pumpkin – Pure pumpkin purée, not pumpkin pie filling. You can use canned pumpkin or make your own if you are in the mood. I used canned 100% pure organic pumpkin purée to make my smoothie.
  • Yogurt – I used vanilla Greek yogurt, but you can use the yogurt of your choice including dairy-free alternatives to make this smoothie bowl plant-based.
  • Almond Milk – or the milk of your choice. I normally use unsweetened plain or vanilla almond milk. I have also used cashew milk, which I love.
  • Cinnamon – I use organic Ceylon cinnamon and I actually put more cinnamon in my smoothie than my recommendation for this recipe since I really love cinnamon.
  • Pumpkin spice
  • Stevia – or sweetener of your choice. I do not make my smoothies super sweet, so you may want to add more sweetener than the recipe calls for. Do a taste test and add more if needed.
  • Chia seeds
  • Flaxseed meal
  • Vanilla – pure vanilla extract.

Fall Harvest Toppings

My fall harvest toppings included chopped apples, walnuts, pecans, and pepitas of course! You can choose your own toppings to customize your smoothie bowl creation.

  • Fruit – Apples, pears, or the fruit of your choice.
  • Nuts – Almonds, walnuts, pecans, peanuts, etc… Nuts are good!
  • Seeds – Pepitas/pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and hemp hearts are all wonderful! They provide extra protein and fiber but very few additional carbohydrates or sugar. Pepitas are always in my bowl!
  • Chai Spice – You can use this as a substitute for the cinnamon and pumpkin spice.
  • Cinnamon Honey Nut Granola – This is the perfect all-in-one topping for a smoothie bowl and it tastes so good!
  • Maple Bourbon Pecans – This is one of my favorite toppings when I have this for dessert!

Pumpkin Yogurt Smoothie Instructions

You can make a pumpkin yogurt smoothie bowl in a blender or by mixing it by hand in a bowl. Using a blender is quick, easy, and creates a smoother mixture. However, I make mine in a bowl by hand all the time so that I do not have to wash the blender. Your choice. Both Instructions are below.

How to Make a Pumpkin Smoothie in a Blender

To make the pumpkin smoothie in a blender, just add all of the smoothie ingredients to a blender or food processor and blend until smooth. Do a taste test and add more sweetener or spice if desired. Pour into a bowl and top with your toppings of choice and sprinkle with extra cinnamon or pumpkin spice.

How to Make a Smoothie in a Bowl

If you are mixing the smoothie by hand in a bowl, I recommend adding all of the dry ingredients to the bowl first then pour the milk over the dry ingredients and stir well to combine. Next, add the yogurt and pumpkin to the mixture and stir well to combine. Do a taste test and add more sweetener or spice if desired. Finally, top with your toppings of choice and sprinkle with extra cinnamon or pumpkin spice.

  • If you would like a thicker pumpkin yogurt smoothie, more like pudding, you can either reduce the milk to 1/3 cup or add an additional tablespoon of chia seeds to soak up more of the liquid and add more protein and fiber to your bowl.
  • If you would like a thinner, more “soupy” smoothie, just add a little more milk.
