Spicy Garlic Butter Shrimp

Garlic Butter Shrimp

Garlic butter shrimp can be served by itself as a main course or as an appetizer. It is great served with pasta, rice, or vegetables for a complete meal.

Don’t like spicy? No problem! It is easy to control the level of heat with this recipe and adjust it to your personal preference. You can even completely omit the spice and just have some tasty garlic butter shrimp!

The white wine garlic butter sauce is the star of the show, and I love serving it with some crusty bread or some Easy Cheddar Biscuits to soak up the yummy sauce. Don’t let the sauce go to waste, it’s just too good! For a low-carb or keto-friendly meal, try serving the spicy shrimp over zucchini noodles or with Creamy Cauliflower Risotto. Yum!

However you decide to serve it, I hope that you enjoy the shrimp!

Spicy Garlic Shrimp Ingredients

  • shrimp – raw shrimp that are peeled and deveined – I use jumbo or extra-large shrimp. Fresh or frozen shrimp both work with this recipe. I prefer the tails off.

  • garlic – minced.
  • white wine – I used Sauvignon Blanc, but any dry white wine will work.
  • butter – I use unsalted butter.
  • cayenne pepper – Easy to adjust the level of heat.
  • salt and pepper – to taste.

Optional Garnish

  • herbs – chopped fresh basil or other fresh herbs.

How to make Spicy Garlic Butter Shrimp

To make the spicy garlic butter shrimp, first, if you are using frozen shrimp, thaw them by running them under cold water, then pat them dry. Use raw shrimp that are peeled and deveined. I use jumbo or extra-large shrimp with the tails removed. Season the shrimp with salt and pepper to taste.

In a large saute pan, heat the oil then melt the butter into the oil over medium heat. Add the cayenne pepper and swirl to combine. Add the shrimp to the pan and saute for about 2 minutes on one side, then flip the shrimp to cook the other side. Add the minced garlic to the pan and cook for 30 seconds – 1 minute. Add the wine to the pan, swirl, and saute for about 2 minutes, or until the shrimp are pink and opaque.

Garnish with chopped fresh basil or other fresh herbs. Serve hot and enjoy!
