Aperol Spritz

This easy Aperol spritz recipe makes a delicious Italian cocktail. Typically served as an apéritif in Italy, a spritz is cold and refreshing!

Aperol Spritz

A classic Italian spritz is a sparkling wine-based cocktail served over ice with digestive bitters and sparkling water or club soda, making it a lighter alcoholic beverage that can be enjoyed during the day and is perfect for the summer months, or when you wish it is summertime like I do right now! It is also a lovely drink for Valentine’s Day.

This Aperol spritz is a delightful cocktail to serve with brunch and a great alternative to champagne or a Mimosa since it includes prosecco and an orange slice. For a beautiful Italian brunch, try serving a spritz with this Healthy Italian Breakfast Skillet or a yummy Frittata, and maybe toss in a few Cheddar Biscuits on the side just for fun. Yum! For a lighter brunch or lunch, you can serve it with this Pear Salad with Honey Balsamic Dressing, which pairs nicely…

I hope you enjoy the Aperol Spritz!

Spritz

The original Spritz cocktail was created in the Veneto region of Italy in the 1800s by Hungarian soldiers. Since they were not accustomed to the higher alcohol content of wine, they began to ask the locals to “spritzen”, which means spray or splash in German, a drop of water into their wine to make the wine lighter. The original spritz was made with white or red wine that was diluted with fresh water. Then the spritz was combined with bitters, club soda, and ice in Venice, Italy in 1920.
